Analysis of Spooks

First of all when the scene opens we can see the camera angle makes a 360 turn around the assumed main character, which always means a spot light set on this person, however we realise that the main character takes orders through a mobile phone. The Protagonist gives the image of being good as it is also presented in the video wearing white, and this resembles of goodness, however from the start the person we first assume of being a terrorist wearing black clothes, later on shows us the reasoning of am attempt to assasin.
The sounds are cleverly used at the start there is a quite music, giving a idea of silence before thunder, however the 3 second middle eastern types music has given an extra affect to show its roots, we see that the man giving orders are getting orders from the person behind him, which the woman gives the idea of confidence and power with crossed arms. I have also liked the fact that when the protagonist shows the phone to the assumed terrorist, the sun light shines on phone which gives the idea of hope and relief, again representing hope and relief the cross signs gives the idea of religious affect as well.
The lighting I thought was very effectives as I mentioned the about the sun, but at the start it seemed that there was a dim lighting, and as the Tv drama went on the sun light shined on the assumed terrorist. The sound of the child also represents hope and relief, which has given the audience to give sympathy towards the child.
Overall I think this scene has very important points and has shown what it tried to show through its camera types, mise-en-scene, editing and sound.

Analysis of a 5 minute clip from Eastenders

In most British Television Drama we can identify that lighting changes instantly and there may be number of cuts throughout the scene as this can create intense and draw the audience into the programme. British Drama is very professionally, made to increase the impact made on the programme, For example in the clips of kisses made on Eastenders, they are all set in a dark, dimmed lights and some candles lightings to create a romance feel and keep the audiences attention which is mise-en-scene, it would be very unrealistic and put the viewer off if the kiss didn’t have the romance feel, and the sound being loud, so we can see the affects of the lighting, sound and the setting of the place, which would have been analysed by majority of the people involved in the production, we can clearly see that Television Drama’s end the scene or finish the episode after and impact made on the audience to get them watching the next episode to see and find out what may happen.
Music Sounds which most of the time plays a huge role on movies and some Television series to create an affect on audience and depending on the mood music changes, but in programmes like Eastenders and Emmerdale you can’t hear any instrumental music which creates another affect of the viewer being part of the programme and not being interrupted by the music.
We also see in the same episode that when Peggy shows the photo of her made by Janine at the Queen Vic, the camera angle shows her looking up at the people and this gives the affect of embarrassment, shyness, and people laughing at her making her seem small and don’t have power to reply. We also see the camera angle with Pat’s back is seen looking at Peggy which gives another idea of the people over her after the showing of the photo. In the scene after where Stacy is seen again, with the camera angle looking at her and the other man, behind her giving another idea of the power Stacy have over him and the power she has over the characters, and the camera angle showing the audience of this.
Going back to the affects of the lighting, we can see in the episode that after the dimmed, dark lights the entrance of a pub atmosphere, has made the contrast between dark and light, the producers may have thought having the audience connected in two scenes so that they can see what is happening in both and scenes and saving time for the scenes. The other very noticeable thing is when Peggy is making a phone call to Janine, Peggy is in a well lit room and the camera zooming into her with excitement and happiness, however when the camera is showing the Janine the room has shadowing and the camera zooms out, as it suggests that she may have a bad plan for her. This technique is very important as it already suggests what may happen in the episode, and again the contrast between dark and light, good and evil.
